In January, 2022 Apex Social Group hosted a virtual meeting with three wonderful California host parents with children with special needs, who shared their experience, how they successfully secured funding for 2022 for their 
live-in developmental childcare (and more) via the new SDP

One of the three parents is Attorney Mark Woodsmall, Esq. who is passionate and dedicated to protecting the rights of children and adults with disabilities for over 20 years. 
He volunteered to answer any of your questions.

Meet Our Speakers
Stephanie Bohn
Stephanie Bohn is the chief brand officer of creative technology company VidMob. Prior to joining VidMob, Stephanie was an executive at Netflix running feature film marketing and before that, she spent 13 years leading marketing teams across various divisions of Warner Bros. Stephanie holds a BBA from The Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA. Stephanie currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband Andy and two girls, Lucy (10) and Sadie (7). Stephanie serves on the board of directors for the Rett Syndrome Research Trust to help find a cure for Sadie.  
Kelley Coleman
Kelley Coleman is a writer, mom, and disability advocate, working with various organizations - such as Canine Companions and Carla's Way - to support children with disabilities and their families. Kelley lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two boys (one of whom has multiple disabilities), a service dog, and a lot of Legos. 
Host - Susan Asay
Susan Asay, is the founder of Apex Social Group. She is personally involved with our program operations, leadership and with the over 400 partnerships with our German Universities and Colleges in Nursing, Teaching and Therapy, where our candidates are trained.  Susan has a daughter with mild special needs and experienced first hand how live-changing the right in-home support from an Apex Care Professionals can have, not just on child's development, but on the whole family. Without support of an educated smart person living with her, a professional career would have been impossible. Susan lives in San Clemente, with her family, three kids age 16, 13 and 2 and Englisch Lab Otto.
Mark is the founder and managing attorney of Woodsmall Law Group, PC, a law firm located in Pasadena, California entirely dedicated to protecting the rights of children and adults with disabilities. Mr. Woodsmall has been practicing law for over 25 years, 16 of which have been exclusively dedicated to advocacy of individuals with developmental disabilities and special needs. Mr. Woodsmall has extensive experience personally appearing before administrative bodies, California state courts, federal district courts, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.


Mark Woodsmall, Esq
In 2008, Mark and his family were the founding family for the Apex Special Needs program. They hosted Sandra, a German Occupational Therapist, as the first ever Apex Special Needs Care Professional to support their son with autism. Sandra stayed for two years with the Woodsmalls and then went on to serve another family with Apex Social Group in Sydney Australia before returning to Germany.

Mr. Woodsmall has served as part of the faculty at the USC Gould School of Law as a Professor Adjunct, teaching in the area of special education law. He also served as the teaching attorney and contributing curriculum author in the Special Education Advocacy Training Project – Los Angeles, an innovative nationwide advocacy training project funded under grant from the US Department of Education and administered through COPAA. Mr. Woodsmall also sits on the UCLA Center for Autism Research & Treatment (CART) Community Advisory Committee. Mr. Woodsmall is a national lecturer on parent’s rights under the IDEA, Section 504 and the Lanterman Act. Mr. Woodsmall was an invited presenter at the 2012, 2013 and 2014 COPAA Conferences (national conference of student attorneys) in Florida, New Mexico and California.
